Where Do The Children Come From?

  • Children of local workers, maids and vendors

  • Marginalized communities, predominated BPL (Below Poverty Line)

  • Word of mouth

  • Relatives of other children

  • Single parent or orphan living with relative

Why Are We Needed?

Puttaparthi is now headquarters for the newly formed Sathya Sai District. Local resources are stretched thin to provide infrastructure for the increasing number of spiritual pilgrims travelling to the area. This means the government can provide less basic resources, like rice and cooking gas, for below poverty line citizens who rely on rations.

Menial workers trapped between poverty and self-sufficiency.

If you visit Puttaparthi, you will see our children’s parents everywhere, but probably overlook them. They are the local people, indigenous to the region who still live a traditional Indian village family life. They have little education and take up the lowly jobs which every society requires (like cleaners, farm workers, housemen, maids, street venders, etc.), but find themselves barely able to earn enough to feed their family, let alone pay for a good education.

Government schools in India are free, but often not satisfactory.

  • Too few

  • Overcrowded

  • Poor monitoring

  • Poor infrastructure

  • Tenured under-motivated teachers
